I really appreciate your thanks for my service. I appreciate your thanks far more than you probably know! Most people would be surprised to know how much we suffered when we lost a loved one of theirs. I one Paramedic coming into the staff break room at the hospital. He had just lost a 6 year old boy who choked to death on a hotdog. The medic walked into the break room very stoic. Then when out of sight of the fam he began to cry, telling us how hard they tried to save the boy but they couldn’t get that stuck piece of meat to clear! I collapsed in a corner once after saving a one year old that drowned in a bathtub. I don’t being led from the room to a separate recovery room, I only realized I was on a stretcher later wondering why and how I got there. This wasn’t something that happened often, but you could only bottle up the suffering of others for so long before the pain caught up. My release usually came in nightmares where I helplessly lost patients over and over again. It took years to finally stop the dreams!
My back finally gave out trying to get a 600 pound patient down 2 flights of stairs. We had 3 crews (6 paramedics) and 3 police officers there. We got the man out safely but a very short time later I sneezed and 2 vertebral discs literally exploded knocking me to my knees. That took 3 surgeries to clean up. I have since then had 10 more surgeries as more discs keep blowing out. But I can truthfully say I wish I could go back and do it again. Of course even if I could I am too old now but I still wish it. Most of the time we were successful but I seem to the failures, telling fam (Zoig will not allow me to say fam+ily) how sorry I was. I only hope they could see through the calloused shell each of us put up to help us do our job. If they saw what happened when that shell shattered they would have understood how much we really cared!

Sorry about this I always read profiles first before I post a comment but this time missed not that it makes much difference you have written it here I thank you for your time in doing this I would again like to thank you for your service the reason why is this the military nurses doctors paramedics are there because they chose to do this and do a really great job probably not the best paid but these days the ones on the front line never do promiced the earth but when it comes to the crunch they are ed over everytime a friend of mine a sargent in the army was in kosovo when it kicked off he said the things he saw no man should see and it left him with ptsd hes got himself sorted but he said its still there.
